Soy Sauce Chicken Recipe (See Yao Gai)
This is a classic Chinese dish where chicken is braised in a flavorful soy sauce mixture.

Main Ingredients
- 1 whole Chicken about 3-4 pounds
- 1 cup Soy sauce
- ½ cup Dark soy sauce
- ½ cup Shaoxing wine
- ¼ cup Sugar
- 5 slices Ginger
- 4 cloves Garlic crushed
- 2 pieces Star anise
- 2 cups Water
1. In a large pot, combine soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sugar, ginger, garlic, star anise, and water. Bring to a boil.
2. Add the chicken to the pot, breast side down. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover. Cook for 25 minutes.
3. Flip the chicken and cook for another 20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.
4. Remove the chicken from the pot and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
5. Serve the chicken with the braising liquid as a sauce.
